What is the difference between Z52 and Emerald Zoysia?

Emerald Zoysia – Is a hybrid grass with a fine blade and dense foilage.  It can tolerate a wide range of soil types but is best suited to well drained fertile soils. Emerald Zoysia also has an excellent wear tolerance but recovery is very slow and it has a moderate to good shade tolerance. Its low growth habit requires less mowing.

Meyer Z52 Zoysia – is a premium lawn grass. It is easy to manage due to its low water requirments, superior cold tolerance, and less mowing.   Z52 loves the sun but can tolerate some medium shade. It is easier to mow compared to Emerald Zoysia .

 Which Zoysia grass can tolerate the most shade?

Z52 grass is less shade tolerant than Emerald Zoysia.

When is the best time to lay Zoysia?

You can lay sod anytime during the growing season, although spring and early autumn are best because cool temperatures combined with occasional rain help sod quickly root. If you lay sod in summer, water at least twice a day for several weeks.

When is the best time to lay Centipede?

Centipede grass is best planted in late spring or early summer

What kills crabgrass?

Post emergent herbicides can be applied to the crabgrass that is visible. Read and follow the manufacturer’s directions on the product you use carefully.

When can I use fertilizer on my grass and what kind should I use?

If you live in Southern areas where lawns feature warm-season grasses, fertilize turf in late spring or early summer, just before grass kicks into high gear. There are numerous products out there but we normally recommend Triple 13 which is 13 nitrogen/13 phosphorus/13 potassium.

What is the best way to prepare for my sod before I lay it?

Clear the site of all rocks, stones or other debris that is larger than 2-3 inches in diameter.  Rough grade the entire area to eliminate draining problems by sloping the grade away from building foundations and filling low lying areas.  Till the existing soil to a minimum depth of at least 2 inches before adding any topsoil.

How often should I water my grass when I first lay it?

Begin watering sod within a half hour after it is laid on the soil. Apply at least 2 to 3 cm (1inch) of water so that the soil beneath the turf is very wet.  Day 2 and the following two weeks: You will be watering your sod two times per day for 15-20 minutes. Our recommended times are (8:00 am, and 1pm). After 2 weeks please shut off your water for 1-2 days and let your soil dry out a little bit so that you can walk on it.

What are the dimensions of a mini roll?

Sunbelt Sod Company LLC cuts their mini rolls to measure 2 ft (24 inches)  by 5 ft (60 inches)

What are the dimensions of a big roll, how do you lay it, and how big is the core?

The big rolls are 42" inches wide by 90' feet long. Each roll is 360 square feet. They have a 42” inch core inside for use with your big roll installer. The rolls are unloaded by inserting a fork into the hollow plastic tube at the center of the roll.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is based on the city your sod will be delivered to. Our delivery cost includes delivery, fuel, and offloading. The charges are based on delivery and not number of pallets ordered.

How many big rolls, mini rolls, and slabs will fit on a truck?

Our trucks will carry 24 big rolls (8640 sq ft ), 18 mini rolls (9000 sq ft), and 20 slabs (9000 sq ft).

How much does a pallet of grass weigh?

Some estimates depend on whether you are using a 450 or a 500 square foot pallet. A 450 sq. ft. pallet will weigh around 2,000 – 2,500 pounds. While a 500 sq. ft. pallet can weigh as much as 3,000 pounds. Typically, the overall weight includes the pallet itself.

How many pallets can a full-size truck carry?

Today's half-ton pickups are capable of hauling more than 1000 pounds (1/2 ton). We have successfully loaded many half-ton trucks with one pallet (approximately 2000-2300 pounds depending on water weight). However, we do not recommend carrying MORE than 1 pallet in your half-ton truck.

Where is your pick-up location?

Our pick-up location is in Vincent, Alabama.

Is the Bermuda over seeded?  

Our Bermuda sod is not over seeded.

What types of payment do you take?

We take Cash, check, or credit card.

 Can the grass be loaded onto my truck with a forklift?

Yes, we can load the grass onto your truck but the tailgate must be removed first.

Is the fall the best time to plant Centipede?

Centipede sod is usually planted in May or June. It does better if it is planted in late spring/early summer when the soil temperatures are 70+ and all danger of freeze/Frost is past.

 Do I need to trim my trees before I plant grass?

It is not necessary for you to trim your trees before laying your sod.  You must make sure though that your sod will receive an adequate amount of sunlight to grow.  Sod is a living and growing thing that must have some sunlight to grow. If your trees block out ALL sunlight then yes you will need to trim back your trees.

How many sq ft or sq yds is in a pallet?

We offer a variety of sod:  

Tifton Bermuda 419 Slabs – 450 sq ft/50 yards

Tifton Bermuda 419 Mini Rolls – 500 sq ft/55 yards

Tifton Bermuda 419 Big Rolls – 360 sq ft/40 yards

Centipede – 450 sq ft/50 Yards

Z52 Zoysia – 450 sq ft/50 Yards

Emerald Zoysia – 450 sq ft/50 yards

Do you cut in the winter?

Yes, we cut all year long.

Can you lay grass in the winter?

Yes, sod can be laid all year long. The ideal time to lay sod is when daytime temperatures are cool (between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit).  At Lower temperatures, the ground might freeze, preventing the roots from becoming established. At hotter temperatures, the sod dries out more quickly and suffers more shock.

How long can grass set on a pallet before I lay it?

The recommend time to lay sod varies between 12 hours to five days after harvesting, depending on the time of year and weather.

What is the best grass to lay on a hill?

We normally recommend that you lay some form of sod on hilly areas to prevent erosion. You can use Bermuda, Centipede, or even Zoysia grass to these areas and they will work fine.

Will Centipede spread?

Yes, it will spread onto sidewalks, patios, and onto areas that are just soil. It can be easily trimmed back if needed though.

What does Centipede look like?

Centipede is a medium to green colored sod that has a coarse texture with short upright stems that grow to about 3-5 inches. It is a warm season grass that is low maintenance.

Do you cut grass when it rains?

No, we are unable to cut sod in the rain or after a steady rain. When the fields become wet it is hard to get to a spot that might be dry enough to cut and in the process of finding a dry spot we can damage sod.

When does grass go dormant?

When soil temperatures drop below 55 degrees Fahrenheit warm season grasses go dormant.

 If my grass is dormant when will it green up?

Your lawn will begin to green up and become the outdoor oasis you know and love when the soil temperatures increase.

How many pieces of sod are on a pallet?

The pallets that have slabs are normally 450 sq ft and have 168 to 170 slabs on each pallet

 How many mini rolls are on a pallet?

The Mini rolls are normally 500 sq ft and have 50 mini rolls per pallet.
